Helium: The Largest Decentralized Wireless Network

What is the Helium Network?

The Helium Network is a decentralized wireless network that allows anyone to deploy a wireless hotspot to earn cryptocurrency. The Helium blockchain uses a proof of coverage consensus mechanism, which means that after every block is mined, a hotspot is selected to provide proof of coverage. This ensures that all users are able to connect without issues and ensures quality internet access for everyone who participates in the network.

With Helium, you can create an application that connects your device with any other device on the network by simply scanning or clicking a QR code. This enables you to easily enable any type of smart functionality in your product.

Using its mobile app, users can easily connect their devices to the global decentralized mesh network built with their own hands using off-the-shelf hardware (a Raspberry Pi computer). By installing this application on their smartphone/tablet/laptop etc., anyone can join the decentralized community where they can share data or participate in transactions via micropayments; thus, creating a truly free internet where no one controls or owns anything because everything belongs equally to everyone else!

A Wireless IoT Network

In the simplest terms, IoT is a network of internet-connected devices. These devices can be anything from in-home appliances to automobiles, and they're often controlled via mobile applications or web interfaces.

The Helium platform enables developers to create new IoT products and services by providing them with an open-sourced infrastructure that includes:

  • A comprehensive SDK that makes building applications for connected devices easy for devs without requiring any specialized knowledge of blockchain technology.

  • A marketplace where users can connect their hardware devices with other people's apps and services (including third-party apps).

  • A payment system based on Ethereum smart contracts that allows users to do things like pay for data usage or subscription fees.

Token Distribution and Use

The Helium Network will be comprised of a token called "Helium." The total supply is 1,000,000,000 tokens and all the tokens have been pre-mined. There are no plans to create more tokens in the future.

The Helium token (HLM) is used to pay for transactions on the platform and can be used by businesses who want to use the network as well as individuals who want access to it.

For example:

Businesses can list their products or services on popular e-commerce sites like Amazon or eBay using HLM instead of fiat currency like USD or EURO which would require them setting up accounts with those companies and also paying transaction fees each time someone purchased something from them using their credit card/debit card/bank account etc. Another benefit for businesses using HLM rather than fiat currencies when listing products/services online is that this eliminates any risk associated with fluctuating exchange rates between these types of currencies over time - which could potentially result in huge losses if someone bought something from you then suddenly converted those funds back into another type of currency before sending you payment (which means they'd still owe you money but wouldn't have any way of paying it back).

Team and Advisors

The team behind Helium consists of a variety of experts in the wireless and blockchain space, including technologists and entrepreneurs with a background in software development, product management, marketing, and strategy.

Helium has also assembled an impressive group of advisors to support their effort. These include:

  • Michael Perklin (COO at Shapeshift) - Michael is a seasoned Bitcoin industry expert who brings his knowledge from his time working at one of the most well-known exchanges around.

  • Don Tapscott (Chief Evangelist of Blockchain Research Institute) - Don is an innovation advisor on a number of projects that aim to use blockchain technology for social good. He’s also written several books about blockchain technology and its potential impact on society as a whole.

  • Jeff Pulver (Founder & Chairman Emeritus Open-Source Telecom Platform) - As an entrepreneur in the telecom industry since 1994, Jeff founded Open-Source Telecom Platform (OSTP) which was later adopted by many other companies including Google Voice. This experience gives him unique insights into how network operators can benefit from using blockchain technology like Helium's platform!

Blockchain technology has the potential to decentralize wireless networking.

Blockchain technology has the potential to decentralize wireless networking. Currently, wireless networks are controlled by a few large companies that use their power to set prices and recoup costs without regard for consumers.

By decentralizing wireless networks, they can be made more affordable while increasing access and competition. Helium aims to provide this service using blockchain technology.

If you’re confused about what blockchain technology actually is or how it works, have no fear! This guide will explain everything you need to know about how it works—including its benefits for wireless networks—and how it can make your life better by providing cheaper data plans with no hidden fees or overages that get charged when you go over the amount of data you pay for each month (like with current carriers).

Conclusion

The purpose of building such a network is that it can be used to track assets. It’s also possible for people to track devices and their movements, as well as the location of things.

This means that you can use Helium to keep track of anything from your car keys, to your pet dog or cat.

Moreover, it will also be possible for you to keep track of data that travels through this network. For example, if someone sends an email using Helium technology then you can use this system to view their location at the time, they sent their message (assuming they were connected). The same goes for video conferences and other types of communications: if somebody uses a computer or phone connected via Helium then all relevant information about said device should be available via this protocol for viewing by authorized parties - including yourself!
