Ever been on a bad date? Ever Been catfished or dated a childish Partner? If your answer is yes, you might not find your dating issues too worse, especially after watching this film. The top OTT platform, Netflix, released a real-life documentary that left people in great rage after acknowledging its end.

Here’s everything you need to know about ‘The Tinder Swindler’.

About the film

The real-life documentary trending #4 on Netflix features a scammer Simon Leviev who conned millions of dollars, estimated $10 million out of his victims using the popular online dating app Tinder. The film is a perfect blend of Crime, Drama, and cinematic nature.

The two-hour film premiered on Netflix on 2nd February and caught the public eye within no time. It features a perfect scam that revolves around a serial fraudster Shimon Hayut, who swaps personalities as fast as he swaps his identity. He disguises himself as Simon Leviev on Tinder, who is a busy billionaire into a dangerous diamond business alongside his father, Oligarch Lev Leviev.

The story behind the Tinder Swindler

As seen on Netflix, the Israeli conman, Simon, the Tinder expert, matches with women and makes them fall in love with him. After spoiling his girlfriend(s), the fraudster then demands favors, entirely financial, and promises to pay them back, which never happens. The show stars 3 major victims Cecilie Fjellhøy, Pernilla Sjoholm, and Ayleen Charlotte.

Beginning with the victim’s point of view, Cecilie Fjellhoy, who instantly matched with Shimon. She describes Hayut’s scam as ‘Well planned’ and a ‘Pattern of habits’ which he used to con his victims. For starters, after months of virtual dating, Cecilie and Shimon flew a private jet on their first date. He displayed his persona as a legit businessman who lives a lavish lifestyle. Over time, as their relationship developed, Simon would ask for large sums of money from Cecilie and spend it on dates with other women, secretly.

How did he get caught?

The cycle goes on for months, with multiple women until one of his long-term girlfriends, Ayleen Koeleman decided enough is enough. After some research, Ayleen found out that Shimon will be flying to Greece. She immediately did some detective work and found out the flight details and handed it to the authorities. Shimon was arrested in 2019 and sentenced to 15 years in prison. The fraudster is under a permanent ban Tinder.

What disappoints the most is, after only 5 months in prison, Shimon is now living as a free citizen, roaming free of all the charges on the streets of Israel. Currently, the Swindler is 31-years-old and is back to living a lavish lifestyle.

Conclusion

In his recent interview after famously refusing to be interviewed by Netflix, he defended himself, claiming, “I am not a fraud. I am not fake. People don’t know me, so they cannot judge me”. He also argued that his father is not in the diamond business, and therefore he does not live a lavish lifestyle on his father’s finances.

Shimon claims that he bought Bitcoin in 2011 which was of no worth then. “I am a legit businessman. I'm not the monster everybody has created.” Shimon added. He then calls himself as ‘Biggest Gentleman in the world’
