1. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie-
Nigerian born and bred, Chimamanda is a novelist and short-story writer. She was titled as ‘The most prominent of a procession of critically acclaimed young anglophone authors’ by The Times literary supplement. With a master's in Creative Writing, Chimamanda’s writings are usually associated with the Non-fiction category. Adichie has been an author of several novels such as Purple Hibiscus (2003), Americanah (2013), Half of a yellow sun (2006). Apart from being viewed as a strong Feminist, Chimamanda played a significant role in objecting to the Anti-Homosexuality Nigerian law in 2014. She had strong views on the LGBTQ community.

Some of her most recent works are Notes on grief (2021), Zikora (2020), Fifteen suggestions (2017), and numerous other great reads. Chimamanda is a winner of several awards such as the Orange and Booker prize, Commonwealth Writers Prize, PEN beyond margins award, Chicago tribune heartland prize, etc...

2. Margaret Atwood-
Born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Margaret Atwood is a Novelist, Poet, Literary critic, inventor, founder, activist, and tons of other things on the list. Beginning to write at the age of 16, Atwood has been the author of 18 books, 18 Novels, 11 non-fiction, 9 short stories, 8 children's books, 2 graphic novels, Small press editions of poetry and fiction. The Griffin Poetry Prize and Writers Trust of Canada were both founded by Margaret. Margaret has around 25 degrees under her name!

Atwood is the inventor of the Longpen (2004). This invention allowed an individual to remotely write in ink anywhere in the world. When asked about being a feminist, Atwood replied, “I am, of course, not a real activist—I'm simply a writer without a job who is frequently asked to speak about subjects that would get people with jobs fired if they spoke. You, however, at Equality Now are real activists. I hope people will give Equality Now lots and lots of money, so they can write equal laws, enact equal laws and see that equal laws are implemented. That way, in time, all girls may be able to grow up believing that there are no avenues that are closed to them simply because they are girls.”

3. Zadie Smith-
Zadie Adeline Smith, born in Willesden, London was a Novelist, essayist, and short-story writer. Zadie’s works include White Teeth (2000), The autograph man (2002), On Beauty (2005), NW (2012), Swing time (2016), and various other iconic writings.

Smith describes herself as ‘unreligious’ and a ‘sentimental humanist’. Zadie has been awarded numerous awards including The Whitbread first novel award, Commonwealth writers award, Time Magazine’s top 100 best English novels published from 1923 to 2005, and numerous other awards.

4. Elena Ferrante-
Elena Ferrante is a pseudonymous Italian Novelist. She is among the 100 most influential people listed by The Times Magazine. Her works include numerous masterpieces including Neapolitan Novels, The story of the Lost child (2015), The lying life of adults, Those who leave and those who stay (2014), My brilliant friend (2012), etc... Ferrante ensured to keep her identity anonymous even after receiving international recognition. This had cost her numerous hilarious assumptions, one of which was her being a man, which she then flawlessly denied.

Ferrante was honored with the Man Booker International prize, The best-translated book award, and the Independent Published Book award.
One of her famous works, The lying life of adults was adapted by the popular OTT platform Netflix in May 2020.

5. Virginia Woolf-
One of the most popular-ever writers and my personal favorite, Virginia Woolf was an English Writer, popular in her times. Born in South Kensington, London, Woolf was an important part of London’s Literary association during the inter-war period. Few of her most iconic works include The Voyage out (1915), Mrs., Dalloway (1925), To the lighthouse (1827), Orlando (1928), and numerous other extraordinary writings.

Woolf suffered from Anxiety and mental illness which led her to attempt suicide twice.
